ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe is calling on his party to accept the outcome of the 2026 local government elections, warning against actions that could damage the ANC’s credibility.

Mantashe cast his vote at Freeway Primary School in Boksburg.

He said the ANC must win as many municipalities as possible and ensure that coalitions, where necessary, are functional.

Mantashe appeared upbeat, telling journalists it’s been a long road to these elections.

With most Gauteng metros expected to remain contested, and the ANC not projected to secure an outright majority in several of them, according to recent polls, Mantashe will play a key role in shaping the party’s post-election coalition strategy.
