Government moves to fast-track rail management split in Transnet unbundling - EWN
Government is moving forward with the process to move rail infrastructure management from the Transnet Group into a separate entity.
It aims to establish a technical task team to finalise the way to corporatise the Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM) by December this year, according to the Operation Vulindlela Quarter 2 progress report.
This is the best news he's heard around South Africa's state-owned freight transport and logistics company in some time, remarks Jan Havenga, Professor of Logistics at Stellenbosch University (SU).
The Operation Vulindlela report highlights the TRIM's revised Network Statement released in September, which incorporates input from the public.
"This is the fourth iteration of the document, which addresses several key issues raised by industry stakeholders to ensure the bankability of investments in rail operations and supports broader interventions aimed at introducing private sector participation in rail."
