Google Gemini Gets New Features That Could Replace Multiple Apps - ProPakistani
Google has added new file-editing features to Gemini, letting users create, preview, and edit documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, presentations, and code directly in the AI chatbot.
The update removes the need to switch between Gemini and other apps to edit AI-generated files.
Google announced the features on October 29, 2026, and confirmed that they are available to all Gemini users, including those without a paid subscription.
Gemini now supports creating and editing several types of files, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide presentations, PDFs, Markdown documents, TXT files, and code.
Users can open supported files directly within their conversations and make changes without leaving Gemini.
Google has also introduced a full-screen editing mode that allows users to work on documents more easily.
Instead of asking Gemini to regenerate an entire file, users can select a specific section and request changes.
For example, users can highlight a paragraph and ask Gemini to rewrite it, summarize information, or improve its wording.
They can also select a table and ask Gemini to convert the information into a graph.
The new features also make it easier to work with PDFs.
Users can ask Gemini to create a PDF document, review its contents, and make changes to specific sections.
Google demonstrated the feature by uploading handwritten lecture notes and asking Gemini to turn them into a PDF study guide.
Users can then edit the generated document, select sections for further changes, and ask questions about its contents.
The update also supports creating and refining presentations.
Gemini can generate presentation content, show a preview of the slides, and make changes to their wording and structure before users open the file in Google Slides or download it.
For spreadsheets, users can generate tables and organize data using text instructions.
Google has confirmed that PDF previewing and editing work on both the Gemini website and mobile app.
However, editing other supported file types, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, presentations, Markdown files, TXT files, and code, is currently limited to the web version.
The company has not announced when these features will become available on mobile.
Google says the update is available to all users in countries and languages where Gemini is supported.
Google introduced file generation and downloading in Gemini earlier this year.
That update allowed users to create documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, and other files through text prompts and download them for further use.
However, users previously had to rely on separate applications or Google Workspace integrations for more detailed editing.
With the latest update, they can make changes directly inside Gemini.
Google already offers AI-powered editing through its Workspace applications, including the Gemini sidebar in Google Docs.
The new functionality brings similar capabilities into the main Gemini chat interface.
The announcement also comes as other AI companies expand their document creation tools.
Anthropic introduced similar features in Claude earlier this year, allowing users to generate and edit documents and presentations directly within conversations.
With the latest update, Google is expanding Gemini beyond answering questions and generating text, giving users more ways to create and edit files within a single application.
