Galaxy Z Fold8 vs Fold8 Ultra vs Flip8: Comparison 2026 - BILD
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8 are Samsung's new foldable smartphones for 2026, and each one has its own focus: a large display for work, a powerful camera for photos, or a particularly compact phone for life on the go. Based on Samsung's official specs, we compare the differences, show what's new compared with the Galaxy Z Fold7 and explain which Samsung foldable fits your everyday life best.
Three phones on the shop counter, all three foldable, all three from the Galaxy Z series. One folds into a flat square, one opens up into an entertainment hub, one becomes a desk to go. You can only take one home. But which one?
The short answer: if you watch series on the train and read e-books in the evening, take the Galaxy Z Fold8. If you work on the move and take lots of photos, take the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. And if you want a phone for a small bag, take the Galaxy Z Flip8. The comparison shows how the three differ in detail.
Format, display, camera, weight and price. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the flip format: ultra-compact when folded, a normal-sized phone when open. The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra are the large format: a normal phone when closed, a 7.6-inch or 8.0-inch screen when unfolded. All values are in the table.
When your phone should fit into small pockets and still stand out. At 180 grams, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is the lightest of the three. Thanks to Flex Mode, it stands up on its own when half-folded: selfies, group photos and short videos work without a tripod and without anyone holding it. The FlexWindow shows notifications and the camera preview without you having to open the phone.
The most powerful camera in the range and more room to work. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the workhorse of the range, from 2,199 euros (RRP). Its larger main display runs two apps side by side, for example a document on the left and your notes on the right. On top of that comes a 200 MP main camera instead of 50 MP and a telephoto lens with 3x optical magnification. If you work on the move and take lots of photos, this is what the extra cost buys you.
Designed for productivity: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra with its 8.0-inch main display
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the entertainment model. Folded, it is roughly the size of a passport; unfolded, it becomes a 4:3 screen made for films, series and e-books. It starts at 1,999 euros (RRP).
For the Galaxy Z Fold8, mainly the format and the battery. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is shorter and wider than the Galaxy Z Fold7, with a 16:10 cover screen and a 4:3 main display. Its battery holds 4,800 mAh⁷, 400 mAh more than the Galaxy Z Fold7, and at 201 grams it weighs 14 grams less.
Tip: if you are switching from the Galaxy Z Fold7, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra keeps the familiar dimensions. It also adds 600 mAh to the battery: 5,000 instead of 4,400 mAh⁷.
Not when it comes to Galaxy AI². All three new Samsung foldables support Galaxy AI features² such as these: Now Nudge³ recognises appointments arranged in a chat and suggests opening the calendar in split screen. Photo Assist⁴ removes distracting objects from pictures, and Live Translate⁶ interprets phone calls and chats in real time. All three also offer protection according to IP48¹.
The model that reflects your everyday life. The differences are clearly divided: compactness with the Galaxy Z Flip8, the entertainment screen with the Galaxy Z Fold8, camera and workspace with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
And if you are still undecided: is a foldable smartphone worth it at all? That depends on your everyday life, not on the technology. How long a foldable lasts is covered in our durability guide.
The bottom line: three phones on the counter, two questions, one foldable in your pocket. That is all it takes to decide.
