Four members of the same family were hurt early Thursday morning during a home invasion in Toronto’s affluent Bridle Path neighbourhood.

Toronto police Insp. Kristy Smith told reporters police were called to the home on Hyde Park Circle, near Bayview and Lawrence avenues, around 3:44 a.m. Oct. 29.

Three masked men allegedly forced their way into a home through the rear door and eventually confronted the family inside, Smith said. The men were armed with handguns, and one also had a hammer.

Four people were inside: a husband, his wife and their two adult children.

“A struggle ensued during this altercation in which the suspects fired their guns multiple times, and one victim was struck with a hammer,” Smith said.

“Three members of the family: the father and his two daughters, sustained gunshot wounds. Two victims remain in hospital with life-altering injuries, while the other two sustained non-life-threatening injuries.”

The suspects eventually fled in an SUV, but police did not have descriptions to provide.

Smith said a demand for valuables was made during the invasion, but investigators are not sure if the suspects escaped with anything as the family are not currently in the home.

“We have no information at this point to suspect that this particular home was targeted by the suspects. I’m not quite sure what their motives are at this time and whether or not they were in the area looking at other houses prior,” she said.

“People should be able to feel safe in their homes. I want to assure residents that the Toronto Police Service will do everything that we can to identify, locate, and bring these suspects to criminal justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
