Five-star QB reaffirms commitment to Nebraska football as Anthony Colandrea re-signs - USA Today
Fear not, Nebraska football fans, five-star quarterback Trae Taylor is not backing off his commitment to the Cornhuskers.
On the eve of Halloween, Taylor reaffirmed his commitment to Nebraska football, despite news that current starting quarterback Anthony Colandrea signed a deal to return to Nebraska in 2027 for his fifth and final year of college eligibility.
In a social media post, Taylor on Friday, Oct. 30, said he is still locked into his commitment to the Cornhuskers and looks forward to learning behind Colandrea next season in Lincoln, Nebraska.
"My phone is blowing up wanting interviews about Ant coming back," Taylor wrote on his X (formerly Twitter). "I’ll post it here and get back focused on my game tonight. I absolutely love that he is coming back and hope TJ stays I can learn a ton from both. I respect every QB in that room as all of them have been helpful to me already. This changes absolutely nothing for my commitment and I’m 100% locked in.
"Looking forward to coming in and competing and learning. Hope that answers everyone’s questions on where me and my family stand. #GBR Sorry I can’t do interviews today; I just need to lock in on (Standing Bear) tonight. Hope everyone understands."
Taylor and Millard South (8-1) (Omaha, NE) take on Standing Bear (Lincoln, NE) at 4 p.m. Friday in the NSAA State Football Championships first-round.
The Patriots ended the regular season with a 41-17 loss to rival Omaha Westside last weekend.
This season, Taylor — the No. 10 player in the 2027 USA TODAY Sports Recruiting Composite Rankings — has thrown for 2,583 yards, 31 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also added 712 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns as a runner.
