Five suspects aged between 15 and 21 have been arrested following the armed robbery of a 20-year-old e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, captured in chilling dashcam footage that has sparked outrage on social media.

Gauteng police have arrested five suspects aged between 15 and 21 in connection with the armed robbery of a 20-year-old e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, after dashcam footage of the incident sparked outrage on social media.

The footage appears to show a female passenger attempting to grab the driver’s cellphone while a male accomplice pulls the handbrake from the back seat, forcing the driver to flee the vehicle.

A man can be heard shouting, “Shoot him, shoot him!” while one of the suspects appears to be holding a firearm and pursuing the fleeing driver.

Police confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 11 am on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Eldorado Park Extension 7.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the 20-year-old driver, who was operating a white Toyota Etios, had responded to a ride request to collect a passenger on Maine Street.

“Upon arrival, a female suspect signalled the driver and entered the front passenger seat, instructing him to wait for her brothers,” Nevhuhulwi said.

Two male suspects subsequently joined them.

“Shortly after the second male entered, one suspect engaged the vehicle’s handbrake while the group forcibly robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash, his driver’s licence, identity document and bank cards.”

Nevhuhulwi said a fourth suspect, who was standing outside the vehicle, fired a gunshot during the incident and demanded the driver’s cellphone.

“The suspects subsequently fled the scene without taking the phone,” she said.

Nevhuhulwi said a follow-up investigation, supported by operational information, led to the arrest of five suspects.

Members of Eldorado Park Crime Intelligence, detectives and Visible Policing (Vispol) officers were involved in the operation.

“All suspects are expected to appear before court soon on charges related to armed robbery and firearm offences,” she added.
