Federation of Thai Industries and Automotive Association Appreciate Governments Increase of BEV–REEV Import Tax to Protect Thai Industry  Thairath English

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) automotive group and the Thai Automotive Industry Association thanked the government for raising the excise tax on fully imported BEV and REEV vehicles to 35%, believing this will ensure fairness for domestic producers. They will monitor details closely before the measure starts in 2027.

Mr. Suwat Supakarndejakul, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries and Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group, and Ms. Yupin Boonsirichan, President of the Thai Automotive Industry Association, stated that both groups appreciate the government's decision to approve restructuring the excise tax on fully imported vehicles (CBU) of BEV and REEV types to 35% in order to protect the domestic automotive industry.

Both organizations believe that this tax restructuring will promote fairness for operators investing in and manufacturing vehicles in Thailand, and clearly signals that Thailand values long-term investment and creating added value domestically.

"We believe this tax adjustment will foster fairness for operators investing and producing in Thailand, as well as send a clear message that Thailand prioritizes long-term investment and value-added production within the country," they said.

However, the automotive industry group and association will continue to follow the measure's details and engage in close discussions with the government before the policy is enforced starting in 2027.

The automotive and parts industry is one of the country's key sectors, with over 2,500 supply chain operators and more than 800,000 employees. This includes vehicle manufacturers, parts and raw material producers, supporting industries, SMEs, and related service businesses. Promoting domestic production helps distribute economic benefits throughout operators and workers along the supply chain and links broadly to the wider economy.
