Evacuation from Oleshky completed under ceasefire - NHKニュース
A humanitarian operation in the southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky to evacuate residents, who survived months without basic supplies, has been completed under a US-brokered ceasefire.
The local ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine took effect on Tuesday to halt the worsening humanitarian situation in the city, which is close to an active battle zone.
Food, medicine and other relief supplies have since been brought in, and demining efforts have been carried out along routes designated for transporting residents who wish to leave.
Footage taken on Saturday shows evacuees wrapped in Ukrainian flags reuniting with their families and hugging each other with joy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media on Saturday that Ukrainian citizens had crossed the state border in the Chernihiv region.
The president said further steps toward de-escalation and real progress toward peace are needed.
On Friday, a Russian official in charge of the humanitarian operation wrote on social media that the action in Oleshky had been completed.
The official stressed the importance of continuing such efforts.
