The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have approached the Pretoria High Court to seek access to court records in the R12-million fraud trial involving two former State Security officers following allegations that the agency was involved in an operation to infiltrate the party.

Thulani Dlomo and Patrick Mshothola are facing charges including fraud, uttering and theft of approximately R12 million.

The application follows testimony at the trial alleging that the State Security Agency funded the operation to gather information on the party and its internal activities, including its parliamentary caucus.

A protected witness has testified that he was recruited to infiltrate the EFF and its parliamentary caucus.

He told the court that he was paid for the operation and that some of the money was shared with a source inside the EFF.

His task was allegedly later expanded to recruiting EFF members to join another political party.
