Tre-Jamal Hamad, 31, of Ajax, was charged on Oct. 25 following an investigation by Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police detachment, the OPP said in a news release Tuesday.

Police said the investigation began after they received a report about the sexual exploitation of a young person on Oct. 21.

Police said Hamad was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on Thursday.

In a post on the social media platform X, Durham Regional Police said they take the allegations against Hamad "very seriously."

"He has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the court proceedings," the post added.

Durham police said they cannot provide further comment because the investigation was conducted by an external police service and the matter is now before the courts.
