DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) called upon youngsters and students to visit Periyar Arivulagam in Coimbatore to understand the principles of the Dravidian movement and the ideals of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, and broaden their knowledge.
Speaking to reporters after touring the recently inaugurated facility along with Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, Mr. Stalin said he had visited the facility earlier but wanted to see it again after its completion and inauguration. However, owing to the large gathering, he could not go through all sections at leisure and wished to return for a more detailed visit.
He said youngsters and students should make use of the facility to learn about the Dravidian movement, the meaning of Dravidam and the ideals and principles of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy. He expressed his wish that Periyar Arivulagam should develop into a people’s library.
Responding to a question on whether more libraries would be established in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Stalin recalled that the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, Chennai, and the Kalaignar Centenary Library in Madurai had been established during the earlier DMK regimes. He said during his tenure as Chief Minister, the government had also ordered the establishment of a library in Tirunelveli in the name of Quaid-e-Millath, while work on a library named after former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj in Tiruchi was under way.
Referring to Periyar Arivulagam, Mr. Stalin said nearly three-fourths of the construction work had been completed before the Assembly elections. He remarked it was fortunate that the project had reached an advanced stage before the change of government, as the new government might otherwise have scrapped it.
