DIRCO shake-up as Lamola replaces Chrispin Phiri with Phindile Kunene - IOL

International Relations and Co-operation Minister Ronald Lamola has a new spokesperson, with Phindile Kunene taking over the role previously held by Chrispin Phiri.

International Relations and Co-operation Minister Ronald Lamola has appointed Phindile Kunene as his new spokesperson, following the assignment of Chrispin Phiri to a special project abroad.

The ministry announced the appointment in a media statement on Friday.

“The Ministry hereby announces that Ms Phindile Kunene has assumed the role of Spokesperson to the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation,” the statement said.

Phiri, who has been moved to a special project abroad, served as the department’s spokesperson since July 2024.

Before joining the department, Phiri served as spokesperson for the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development from 2019 to 2024, during Lamola’s tenure as justice minister.

The ministry said Lamola had congratulated Kunene on her new role and wished her success in carrying out her responsibilities.

Lamola also thanked Phiri for his dedication and service during his time as spokesperson.
