Dennis Trillo calls out party supplier over tabloid prop featuring Jennylyn Mercado's childhood ordeal - GMA Network
Dennis Trillo called out party supplier Party Magic for using as a prop a tabloid replica that featured on its front page a childhood photo of his wife, Jennylyn Mercado, as well as a headline about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather.
According to Iya Villania’s report on “24 Oras” on Friday, Dennis took to Facebook to express his displeasure over the use of the clipping, questioning why the supplier chose an image as part of a party theme.
"Bakit niyo naman napiling gamitin ito mismong kopya ng tabloid na ito? Sa theme ng children's party pa ha? Paki paliwanag please..." he wrote in the caption.
"Sa mga hindi nakaka alam, yung naka headline na batang binugbog ay yung asawa ko. Tama ba naman na yun pa ang ilagay niyo?"
(Why did you choose to use this exact replica of the tabloid? And at a children's party? Please explain. For those who don't know, the child featured in the headline about being beaten is my wife. Is it really appropriate for you to use that?)
The actor also said that the supplier had not been answering his calls, prompting him to publicly raise the issue.
Following Dennis' post, Party Magic released a statement, which aired on "24 Oras."
The party supplier apologized to Dennis and Jennylyn, saying the clipping was included unintentionally in its props.
"The clipping was unintentionally included among vintage newspaper materials used as decorative props. We recognize that regardless of the circumstances, such a painful and personal story should never have been used in a celebratory setting," it said.
The party supplier also took responsibility for the incident and clarified it never intended to "target, ridicule, or disrespect Ms. Mercado or her family."
"We are reviewing and strengthening our internal processes to ensure that all creative materials are screened with greater car and sensitivity."
