Wine fans have gathered in Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan's main wine-producing regions, to attend a tasting event marking the release of this year's new wines.

Yamanashi Nouveau is made from Koshu and Muscat Bailey A grapes harvested in the Prefecture. The wines go on sale each year on November 3.

At the event held Tuesday at a tourist facility in Koshu City, visitors had the chance to sample 40 newly released wines.

Japanese singer Kobayashi Sachiko, who serves as the city's tourism ambassador, told attendees that both wine and life mature with time.

Visitors also listened as winery staff explained the characteristics of their wines.

A man who came from Chiba Prefecture with his wife said he had been looking forward to the event. He described the new wines as easy to drink and very tasty.

Another visitor from Mie Prefecture, attending with his family, said the wines were very good and that he hoped to come again next year.
