Protests in France over the cost of living and education issues have escalated into violent clashes in Paris. Demonstrators threw firebombs while police responded with tear gas, and authorities deployed 70,000 officers nationwide to manage the unrest.
The protest situation in France intensified again on Saturday night after a peaceful demonstration in Paris turned into violent clashes. This marks the third consecutive weekend of protests amid public dissatisfaction with rising living costs and education problems.
The French government estimates around 320,000 people participated in demonstrations nationwide, while authorities mobilized about 70,000 police officers across the country to ensure safety and control the situation, including rerouting protest marches in Paris to the city's outskirts.
The protests escalated when some demonstrators threw firebombs at officers, causing one policeman's leg to catch fire. Police responded with tear gas, resulting in numerous injuries. The French prosecutor plans to charge those responsible with attempted murder.
Earlier, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez warned that the protests carried a high risk of unrest, especially following Halloween night, prompting authorities to closely monitor the situation.
The protests began last month, initially led by high school students, before expanding to include labor unions and other groups dissatisfied with issues related to the cost of living and education.
Meanwhile, Germany and Italy are also experiencing youth-led protests, with demonstrators urging their governments to address education, healthcare, climate protection, and living costs to prevent citizens from bearing excessive financial burdens.
