Ceasefire takes hold in Oleshky in Ukraine - NHKニュース
A ceasefire agreement between Moscow and Kyiv took effect on Tuesday in the southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky. However, the two sides continue to mount attacks elsewhere, and Russia has struck a park in Kyiv that has a connection to Japan.
Oleshky is in the Kherson region, close to a battle zone. The humanitarian situation there is rapidly deteriorating. Drone attacks and landmines make it difficult for residents to evacuate.
Russia's defense ministry said in a social media post on Tuesday that its forces have halted attacks in the area. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier the ceasefire will continue for a few days.
However, attacks in other areas show no signs of ending. Zelenskyy posted on social media on Monday that Russian ballistic missiles struck a university in the capital and surrounding areas, including Kyoto Park, which was built in 1971 after Kyoto and Kyiv became sister cities.
Ukrainian forces have mounted attacks of their own. The governor of the western Russian province of Bryansk said on social media on Tuesday that one person was killed and six wounded in a series of drone strikes.
