BJP MLA V. Sunil Kumar has accused the Congress of misleading people by selectively questioning the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and raising objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He said that the Election Commission is functioning within the legal framework, while the Congress is acting beyond its constitutional boundaries.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Kumar announced a State-wide youth outreach campaign, “Prajaprabhutva ulisi, aarajakathe alisi” (Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy), from November 9 to 30.
The campaign will cover 500 locations and involve interactions with people below 30 years of age, including students from around 100 colleges.
Party MP Tejasvi Surya will launch the campaign in Hubballi, while BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra will lead a programme in Bengaluru.
On the sting operation, Mr. Kumar sought a fair and transparent investigation. He said that elections should be decided by the people’s mandate and not through unethical means.
Asked about reports that the sting video was uploaded from Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s residence in Delhi, he said that Mr. Kumaraswamy should clarify the matter. He questioned the pace of the probe and demanded transparency in the investigation and its findings.
Mr. Kumar also accused the State government of imposing conditions that prevent distressed farmers from accessing drought relief compensation of ₹2,500.
He criticised the delay in milk subsidies due since June and said that another increase in milk prices will burden consumers.
He said that the Congress government is diluting its five guarantee schemes by imposing eligibility conditions and seeking to revise the benefits.
