Autorickshaw unions have raised concerns over differences between government-approved metre fares and fares charged by ride-hailing apps. They also called for safeguards to ensure minimum earnings for drivers and parity between the two fare systems.
The Telangana Auto Motor Driver Union and Telangana Auto Drivers Federation, two key unions, wrote to Transport Commissioner K. Ilambarithi, listing 10 demands. These include holding a meeting with autorickshaw drivers and cab unions to hear their views on welfare, social security and grievance redressal. They also sought rules to regulate minimum driver payments, commissions charged by ride-hailing apps and other fees.
The unions sought strict implementation of the aggregator policy in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.
They pointed out that different ride-hailing apps quote different fares for the same route and sought a clear government policy on fares. This should specify minimum and maximum fares, regulate dynamic pricing, prevent unauthorised additional charges and ensure fair competition among service providers.
