Afghan police foil human trafficking attempts, rescue 57 in western region-Xinhua - 新华网
KABUL, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Police foiled human trafficking attempts and rescued 57 individuals in the western Afghan province of Nimroz on Saturday, provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat said Sunday.
A group of traffickers had attempted to illegally take the 57 people out of the country via Nimroz province, but police identified and thwarted the attempt, the official said.
The official did not say whether any of the suspected traffickers had been arrested. However, he added that police had also seized five vehicles used to transport the individuals.
Previously, police reported rescuing 127 people from suspected human traffickers in the same province on Wednesday.
Many Afghans continue to leave their war-torn and poverty-stricken country in search of jobs amid economic hardship and unemployment. ■
